Resumen

Sea-level reanalysis data fields from the Iberia-Biscay-Ireland Monitoring and ForecastingCenter (IBIre), in the framework of the Copernicus Marine Environment Monitoring System (CMEMS),were analyzed and validated with tide-gauge and vertical positioning data from 118 stations, in order toestablish a reference hydrographic surface (RHS) for ellipsoidally referenced surveys in Spanish waters, for both the Iberian Peninsula (IPD) and Canary Islands (CID) domains. The errors between observedand IBIre values in IPD were about 10 cm for the lowest tidal range, plausibly due to local features notresolved by IBIre, and 3 cm in CID. Regarding the ellipsoidal heights of the lowest sea-level, the errorswere about 10 cm (IPD) and 7 cm (CID). Complementary validations with satellite MDT productsshowed errors below 5 cm. IBIre sea-level data have revealed to be of enough quality to constitute areliable basis for an operative RHS in Spanish waters.
