Resumen

La incidencia de la sífilis ha aumentado notablemente en los últimos diez años. Sus síntomas y signos son muy variados, por lo que necesita un alto nivel de sospecha, especialmente para las formas clínicas de neurosífilis que se diagnostican mayoritariamente en fases precoces, por lo que es imprescindible una anamnesis y una exploración clínica neurológica adecuadas en todo paciente atendido por sífilis. El diagnóstico y el seguimiento se hacen fundamentalmente con serología, pero su correcta interpretación necesita una historia clínica dirigida a conductas sexuales de riesgo y antecedentes de sífilis y tratamiento de la misma. El tratamiento con penicilina parenteral sigue siendo eficaz y la primera opción terapéutica. Por su alta transmisibilidad, se debe estudiar y tratar a las parejas sexuales de las personas diagnosticadas de sífilis.
