Abstract
In general, creativity should be one of the main characteristics of teachers of any educational stage. Currently, there is a demand for better preparation of teachers to face the teaching and learning process. The use of STEM + A (STEAM) competences in Education unites creativity and the improvement of the teaching and learning process as an innovative and motivating element (Kennedy and Odell, 2014; Quigley and Herro, 2016). Under these premises, a workshop was proposed to the students of the Early Childhood Education Degree of the University of Cadiz. In the workshop they were going to develop their STEAM skills for the design and construction of a series of measuring instruments and user activities. This workshop would allow them to build and work the scope of magnitude-measure knowledge. The result of the workshop led them to investigate the necessary knowledge about the logical-mathematical field, aspects such as the lever and the fulcrum, design of sketches by hand and computer and the attractive appearance of the instruments. Most of the objectives, creativity, motivation and improvement of the teaching and learning process were met. However, the fear towards this knowledge did not diminish.
