Abstract

The blue economy, linked to blue growth, emerges as a key strategy of the European Union for the sustainable development of marine potential, integrating economy, society and environment. In the context of the needs arising from the transition to a sustainable blue economy, there is clearly an important niche of green jobs oriented towards sustainability needs. However, although many regulatory instruments have developed this shift, a learning gap is clearly identified when trying to cover new labour market requirements. Therefore, a determined action is needed for an agile educational reform that aligns vocational and university training with the needs of the sector, promoting quality jobs and the development of new skills and integrating women into employment in the blue economy.
