Dr. Mohand Tilmatine holds a doctorate in Philosophy, Linguistics and Romance languages and literature from the Wilhems-Universität Münster (Germany), his DEA in Translation (French-German-Arabic) from the ESIT High School (Sorbonne Nouvelle) in Paris and a License (Bachelor's degree) from the University of Algiers. He was Assistant Professor in Algeria at the University of Algiers, in Germany at the University of Karlsruhe and the Freie Universität Berlin and visiting Professor at the Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona, the Freie Universität Berlin (2006, 2009, 2001) and the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitána of México. He holds also professorships at the universities of Barcelona, University of Cologne, École de Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales and different research stays in Paris (INALCO and EHESS), Canada (Toronto) and Oxford. He is currently Full Professor (Catedrático de Universidad) for Berber Languages and Culture at the University of Cádiz. One of its axes of main investigations is the question of minorities and identity claims in North of Africa, with special focus on the Berber Identity Movement. Dr. Mohand Tilmatine leads since 2000 the Research Grup HUM 685 Berber Languages and Societies (http://www.uca.es/grupos-inv/HUM683/) und was director in Barcelona of the Catalan Observatory of Amazigh (Berber) language (2007-2010) financed by the Catalan Government (Spain).
