Facotrabeculectomía por una o por dos vías

Abstract

Purpose: To evaluate the effectiveness of «two-ports» and «single-port» combined phacoemulsification and trabeculectomy surgery. Material and Methods: A prospective study of 25 eyes of 25 patients with coexisting cataract and chronic glaucoma who underwent combined surgical procedure of phacoemulsification and trabeculectomy, has been carried out. 13 of these eyes had the combined surgery with two different ports, and the others 12 eyes had the combined surgery with a single port. The mean follow-up period has been 11.5 months (min.: 6, max.: 15) for both of the groups. Results: At the last follow-up visit, 10 of 13 cases (76.9%) of the two-ports group and 9 of 12 cases (75%) of the single-port group, reached a final IOP <20 mmHg and >5 mmHg. At the same visit, 9 of 13 cases (69.2%) in the two-ports group and 8 of 12 cases (66.6%) in the single-port group had a final best-corrected visual acuity of 0.5 or better. So, no clinically significant difference in postoperative pressure reduction and visual acuity was seen between the groups. Complications were minor and similar in both groups. Conclusion: Utilization of one or two ports in combined phacoemulsification and trabeculectomy surgery does not seem to implicate a different success rate in this surgical procedure.
