Résumé

The central object of this research has been the study of the life and artistic production of the musician Tomás Hernández Arévalo, highlighting his contributions as a music teacher, bandleader and composer. In this work, his musical legacy is valued, the importance of which can be seen in the members of the Banda Municipal de Música de Jerez de los Caballeros. As a music teacher, he trained his children and members of the band. Through the primary sources that we obtain, and their analysis of content, we dimension their trajectory. Maestro Arévalo created the band in 1906 and was its director until 1934. We find the author's original handwritten compositions in Jerez, Barcarrota and Madrid. The classification and study, has enabled us to value his musical work, highlighting the compositions for band and religious music. The methodology of the research we have developed is qualitative in relation to the profile of the author, and quantitative in relation to the study of his musical work. The techniques used have been decisive in obtaining results and are applicable to other fields in social science research. The results of this work, contribute to the knowledge of the musical and educational heritage in Extremadura, being its divulgation and diffusion the purpose of the proposed objectives.
