Abstract

All of the main aspects (the theaters, authors, works, companies, criticisms and sociological ramifications) of theater performed in Spanish during the years 2000-2010 in Los Angeles are explained in detail. Also, the conclusions obtained from the study of Spanish language theater in Los Angeles are presented. Los Angeles is a unique city in terms of its Hispanic population. Almost half of the population of the city identifies itself as Hispanic, however not all of these Hispanics actually speak Spanish. Given these circumstances, the dissertation seeks to measure the impact and importance of Spanish-language theater in the city.
