Abstract

Formation, learning and communication are terms that are intimately related; possibly if we look for the education of people in a flexible way and at distance, in the present society we cannot forget to make it through Internet. This net developed at world level, is formed by the interconnection of multiple nets of computers (LANs and WANs). On such an infrastructure all the services work at the moment well-known (e-mail, WWW, FTP, News, etc.). At present, communication the technical aspects and possible didactic applications are analyzed of one of those services: the IRC (Internet Relay Chat). The work breaks down in the following parts: introduction to the concept and use of the IRC, technical considerations, advantages and inconveniences of their incorporation in the educational environment and, lastly, our experience in the creation and administration of a channel (#Intercampus) dedicated to foment the exchange of students between Spain and Latin America
