Abstract

This paper explores the development of printed materials in ESP from a practical point of view and aims to shed light on issues of concern to ESP practitioners whenthey set about writing materials for classroom use. Such matters include the reasonsfor ESP materials development, the value of authentic materials, the evaluation of published materials, the development of original and adapted in-house materials, andthe corresponding implications for the ESP practitioner. Sample activities have beenincluded and commented so as to illustrate the issues raised and to be of practicalguidance to in-service and prospective developers of ESP materials
