Zusammenfassung
This piece of work concerns the problems that two different trends have produced in hispanic linguistics: grammarians who have employed syntactic functions to define categories as opposed to grammarians who have explicitly rejected that possibility. At the same time, we try to establish a clear difference between two different semantic functions: syntagmatic sentence functions, that are applied to the interpretation of the relation between sentence constituents, and verbal categories, that allude to the interpretation of the reference the linguistic units designate.
