Abstract

Analysis of "Emporio del Orbe. Cádiz Ilustrada" (1690), wroten by Fray Jerónimo de la Concepción, member of the Order of Carmel. This book is a good example of the chorographical genre and have all the themes that we can find in the Historiography of Cádiz during XVIth and XVIIth centuries: the big antiquity of the city, its mythical foundation, a partial view of its historical evolution, numerous praises to the city and their citizens, description of Cádiz like a commercial emporium, a Church that begins in the first times of the Christianisme, and a very Catholic city, with many church's and convents, and with a very devouts citizens. The book of Fray Jerónimo gives a mythical image of Cádiz during the times of the colonial trade with America.
