The main objective of this article is to show that Benedictus Arias Montanus wrote an Italian grammar that is partially preserved in codex K-III-8 of San Lorenzo of El Escorial Royal Library. His overall goal was to teach Italian to Fray Luis de Leon. The Extremaduran humanist wrote this small work probably at the end of 1559, after his first trip to Italy, and it must have been around this period when the famous Augustin monk started to learn Italian.
