Résumé

This article contextualizes the discrete level of female entrepreneurship in Spain and its differential aspects. It includes an analysis of the general characteristics of female entrepreneurship, grouping them into contextual, demographic and perceptual factors. In addition, it considers in more depth those that promote or hinder the development of female entrepreneurship: social networks, access to finance and the institutional framework supporting entrepreneurial activity. Finally, it makes a number of specific recommendations in order to correct the major weaknesses in this area and exploit female entrepreneurship opportunities in Spain.
