Resum

Tourism is a good that must be available to all citizens, without any population group can be excluded. However, the existence of barriers in tourist destinations prevents people with disabilities can access them, despite the relevance of this population and its increasing involvement in tourism. According to estimates by the World Health Organization and the World Bank (2011), the disabled population in the world in 2011 is over one billion people, representing about 15% of the population. Under these circumstances, the incorporation of accessibility and universal design in the global tourism as well as each of the elements that compose it, has become the key factor for integration and competitiveness of destinations in the current tourist environment. In particular, the accessibility of air transport is of particular relevance to the Spanish tourism industry because 75% of tourists entering the country do so through this mode of transport (EFSA, 2010). In this research, after conducting a literature review to determine the current status of research on the accessibility of air travel by people with reduced mobility (PRM), analyze the phenomenon of accessibility in this mode of transport, providing quantitative and qualitative measures in Spanish airports.
