Abstract
A new context for the discussion over education has been created by the incorporation of the concept of diversity as crucial and the acceptance of the need to recognize and respect cultural, national, ethnic, racial, religious and gender identities. This, in turn, calls for a redefinition of the notions of quality, efficacy, equity and social responsibility and, in general, affects our understanding of the relation culture-education-politics. It requires a critical and open-minded consciousness directed to-ward a deconstruction and a reconstruction capable of appreciating the current effects of cultural diversity in education.
