Resumen

La diarrea es una de las complicaciones principales en los pacientes con infección por el virus de la inmunodeficiencia humana (VIH) a pesar del tratamiento antirretrovírico de gran actividad (TARGA). La etiología de la diarrea aguda es multifactorial e incluye causas infecciosas y no infecciosas. Los pacientes con infección por el VIH en los estadios iniciales de la infección o con estado inmunitario conservado por el TARGA sufren infecciones por los mismos enteropatógenos que los pacientes inmunocompetentes. Si progresa la inmunodeficiencia, estos pacientes se hacen susceptibles a infecciones oportunistas. La principal causa de diarrea no infecciosa en los pacientes con infección por el VIH es el propio TARGA.
