Abstract
In the absence of a known hematologic disease, lymphocytosis is related to mononucleosis syndrome, especially in young adults and children, as well as malignant lymphocytosis. Causes for the mononucleosis syndrome are infections by Epstein-Barr virus, human immunodeficiency virus and cytomegalovirus. Other viral and bacterial infections, autoimmune or endocrine diseases, and stress can cause reactive lymphocytosis.
