Abstract
The objective of this paper is the analysis of the efficiency of the public hospitals of Andalusia, Spain, by means of Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). The DEA model has been applied to 30 Spanish hospitals over the years 1993, 1994 and 1995, using for this three different types of relationships for measuring and evaluating efficiency. The factors that have been correlated are: 1) Resources of Health; 2) Resources and Activity; 3) Activity and Health. As well as identifying the efficient and inefficient hospitals according to each model, for each year, and the particular outputs and inputs to be improved, we also established the following complementary objectives: a) To study the association between the various measures of efficiency obtained from the different levels corresponding to the successive stages of the productive process in hospitals. b) To study which factors are related in a significant way with the levels of efficiency-inefficiency, using Multivariant Linear Analysis for this. c) To study which factors best predict whether any particular hospital belongs to the efficient or inefficient grouping, according to DEA, using Multivariant Logistical Regression Analysis. Key words: efficiency, health care, DEA.
