Zusammenfassung

The close relationship between tourism and technological innovation has generated a significant range of services for business and tourist destinations in its aim of providing a more enrichening experience to tourists. Thus, the use of new technologies has become an indispensable element of any tourist destination, even more in an environment in which prevails the active participation of the user at the destination and to it through social networks or applications, among other tools that contribute to achieve a unique and differentiated experience for the customer. Among these tools serving the tourists to reach this type of experiences there is augmented reality, which is one of the most important technological advances of recent years, consisting in the fusion of a real environment with a virtual environment based on overlaying of virtual objects onto reality in real time (Callejas, et al, 2011: 94). Augmented reality is an effective and relevant communication tool that enables publicizing tourism resources, hence its use in this sector and particularly its application to cultural tourism have become an added value for raise awareness of the historical and cultural heritage of a destination. That is why in this paper the possibilities arising from the use of augmented reality in the tourism sector will be discussed, particularly in its application to cultural tourism, focusing research on a case study, the company Vaivén Gestión Turística y Cultural and its Guideo App.
