Abstract

The agri-food sector can be seen as a strategic sector in the Spanish economy in our century. It can be defined as a powerful sector, with great opportunities. In fact, it has been shown like that even facing the current economic crisis because it has been less affected than the rest of the economy. With this approach, we have planned a competitiveness analysis of Spanish agri-food exports, in order to identify stronger and weaker regions in 2007-2010. With his aim in mind, we will use Shift-Share methodology, supplemented with the study of its elasticities. Finally, we can conclude that the strategic position of the regional export competitiveness depends on its productive overall structure, rather than the weight of the agri-food sector of each region.
