Resumo

One of the most controversial issues in economic theory is the productive role that human capital has in regional development, and therefore, in determining the regional economic disparities. Although the results are different in this regard, as they depend heavily on the data and the used methodology, the general conclusion is that there seems to be a positive effect of human capital on economic development. In this sense, the objectives in this work were as follows: firstly, we will try to review the convergence process experienced by the Gross Domestic Product per capita (GDP pc) in the period 1980-2012, and the determinants of this process, and finally, we have studied the role of human capital in the dynamics of regional economic disparities.
