AbstractThis work is part of a broader study to develop, validate and to be used as an assessment tool in the form of a questionnaire about the understanding the nature of the models directed towards students and teachers. The questionnaire covers five dimensions: models such as multiple representations, models such as non-exact replicas, how models work, the use of models and the changing nature of the models themselves. Its application to 85 secondary student teachers specializing in Physics and Chemistry, Biology and Geology of two Andalusian universities has been analyzed. The results suggest that at least with some of these graduates, there are gaps in their views about the nature of the models. Comparing the results with those of other similar studies, suggests common patterns in their understanding, which would serve to raise some educational implications and future research proposals.
