Abstract

Sustainable management of cultural heritage includes among its principles the achievement of economic efficiency, environmental conservation and social equity. The latter implies in the tourism sector, the need to promote universal accessibility of cultural tourism resources as a key variable for the inclusion of people with disabilities in all areas of economic, social and cultural life of the country. In particular, the universal accessibility is considered as a basic element in the sustainable management of cultural heritage and whose purpose is to ensure the right to use and enjoyment of persons with disabilities to resources in it. The aim of this paper is to analyze accessibility as a factor of social equity and equal opportunities for people with disabilities in one of the most important heritage resources of tourism, museums. Consequently, on the one hand, the regulatory framework governing accessibility in museums will be analyzed, and on the other, measures to ensure accessibility in them. The work was completed through the case study of the most representative museums actions taken on accessibility. Given the peculiarities of research and analyze the phenomenon has been considered most suitable research strategy the case study method. This methodology allows deeper understanding of the subject matter and contribute to serve as a reference for sustainable management of other heritage resources on accessibility.
