Abstract

The term competence has acquired a leading role in education in recent decades, and yet, many of us, who dedicate to training, cannot understand what this means and its implications. The objectives of this project were to define the skills students develop in the subject Theoretical and Methodological Bases of Nursing Care in the Degree of Nursing; to design and implement assessment tools with the same well‐defined criteria, and therefore, to promote a better coordination among the three campuses where the above subject is taught. To achieve these objectives we divided the work in stages. In the first stage focus groups were established among teachers participating in the project. In the second stage we developed a questionnaire to determine the perception of the students about how they were developing skills in that subject and the other subjects of the Degree. The statistical analysis was descriptive and a multivariate factor analysis. The results obtained with the assessment tool skills, have highlighted the need to remove from the teaching program, and therefore from the teaching guide of the subject, the competencies and skills CTG5 Capacity utilization of Information Technology and Communication in clinical, therapeutic, preventive and research, CTG19 Creativity, and CTG21 Knowledge of other cultures and customs.
