International judicial cooperation for civil matters between Member States of the EU and the United Kingdom can be severely curtailed as a consequence of Brexit if upon the end of the transitory period, 31 December 2020, no new partnership between the UK and the UE has been approved including agreements on judicial civil cooperation. Other multilateral solutions are possible within the framework of The Hague Conference on Private International Law or in rela-tion to the UK’s ratification of the Lugano Convention 2007. Conversely, the situation of Gibraltar can be different to that of the UK if the separate agreement between the EU and UK in relation to Gibraltar includes a repertory of cooperation instruments sufficient enough to at least safeguard the application of part of EU Private International Law in force to date
