Resumo
The superficial sediments of the northen continental shelf of the Cadiz Gulf are characterized by their low content in organic compounds, except for the carbonates that amount up to 20%. Organic matter, phosphorus, nitrogen and pigments are associated with the clay and silt fraction of the sediments. On the other hand, the study of the heavy metals allows us to establish their distribution and the relationship with mineralogy, bioclasts and grain-sizes distribution. The combined geochemical and statistic study (multivariate factor analysis) evidences the presence of spillage points of industrial source in neighbouring continental areas. The factorial analysis allows us to establish the relationship between organic and inorganic constituents of sediments. So, the sand fraction seems to be associated with terrigenous minerals and bioclasts, and organic matter and other biogenic components are incorporated to silt and clay fractions, in connection with inputs from the Guadalquivir and other rivers.
