Zusammenfassung

The demand for the professionalization of the police is not just a corporate demand for job improvements. It has to do with establishing the appropriate mechanisms so that the institution, and each of its members, can carry out their functions in the most appropriate way, within the framework of a Social and democratic State of Law, in a way that generates trust in the citizens and obtains legitimacy for its action. These objectives must be achieved, despite the current doubts and uncertainties about the roles and functions of the police institution in complex societies, and they are also valid in times of crisis, such as that of COVID 19. Incorporating scientific, legal and ethical knowledge into police practice, through training, adds objective elements that reduce the discretion of an already complex activity, and reduces uncertainty, both for those who submit to the police force, and for those who exercise it
