Abstract

Purpose: The aim of this study is to describe morphologics and antropometrics parameters in fibromyalgia (FM) patients comparing and contrasting them with others studies about body composition in spanish and other countries FM patients. Describir las características morfológicas y antropométricas de enfermas de FM de la provincia de Granada, comparando y contrastando los resultados con los de otros estudios existentes sobre composición corporal en pacientes de FM de España y de otros países. Methods: Sixty women aged 49,57 ±8,89 years diagnosed with FM with the American College of Rheumatology criteria and a similar and traditional pharmacologic treatment. Body composition was measured and analyzed with an eight electrodes bio-impediancemeter. Results/Discusion: The average of weight of our FM group was 70.96 ± 12.86 kg. High average was 157.88 ± 6.46 cm. Total protein weight was 8.34 kg. ± 0.96 kg. Mineral content has been of 2.98±0.36 kg. Fat mass was 28.29 kg. ± 0.06 kg. and the media of total body water was 34 ± 3.62 l. The average of muscle mass has been 23.18 ± 2.92 kg.. Regarding to the waist hip ratio the average value stood at 0.99 ± 0.08. From these parameters has been calculated an average BMI of 28.49 ± 4.94 and a percentage of body fat of 38.82 ± 7.97% of the total weight. Conclusion: High levels of BMI and percentage of body fat mass and low levels of fat-free mass makes necessary to change body composition of FM patients in order to reduce and ease the symptoms of the illness.
