Abstract

The progress on rights and freedoms that the Septembrina enshrined helped promoting, in terms of organization, a citizenship that was eager to participate in the resolution of political and social issues. This article analyzes, from a gender perspective, the diverse associative experiences that the Spanish citizens carried out as an expression of their own growing participatory interest, which made them adapt the open liberties regime. These networks and women' associations opened new possibilities of philanthropy and political involvement for the population and helped teaching a lesson on civic awareness. This agency, often focused on the cause of others and involving class, beliefs and shared political cultures, also helped to promote self-awareness about the lack of opportunities and rights as women, and would make them present to the public.
