In this paper traverse and section topographs corresponding to Brazil twin composition planes on Z-plates of synthetic quartz crystals are described and analysed to determine their crystallographic orientation and displacement vector,!^ It is found that these composition planes are parallel to the major rombohedral plane (0111) with the value of the displacement vector R* = ± 1/9 [100].
