Resum

The aim of the work undertaken is to provide ultrafine yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) powders to be compacted by Heat Isostatic Pressure (HIP) and then microstruc-turally and mechanically characterized by other research units. With this purpose, and inert atmosphere working device has been installed and tuned up for preparing ceramics powders by alkoxides controlled hydrolysis. Namometric YSZ powders (6.3 % molar) were obtained and characterized by calorimetric analysis, x-ray difraction, transmission and scanning microscopy, N2 physisortion and conventional distilled water pycnometry. Calcination temperature was optimized from the densities of samples made from heat-treated powders at différents temperatures and uniaxially pressed at room temperature. Those calcined at 500 °C reached a 95 % of the bulk material tetragonal phase after sintering
