Zusammenfassung

In the European Directive 2002/49 relating to the assessment and management of environmental noise an action plan is described like an instrument that helps to structure and prioritise noise abatement measures. It includes maps and descriptions of the noise problems. Studies about overview mapping process showing the noise hot spots are necessary to identify noise reduction targets. An existing GIS methodology previously used in this kind of studies has been modified in order to improve a hot spot searching tool for traffic noise. From the analysis of the method's steps that caused problems like graphic inaccuracies and non comparability of data it has been possible to find which geometry improvements determine a general solution applicable to any type of road.
