Abstract

The flow regime of the Guadalquivir estuary has been established by means of the analysis of the bedform fields present on the riverbed, using a multibeam echo-sounder. This study allowed to deduce the hydrodynamic dominant regime maintained by the river current in its final tract. The results indicate a moderate flow regime with tendency to the equilibrium, and alternance of high, medium and fluvial low energy sectors. The dominant depositional process is the transport, although local erosion and sedimentation are also present. These processes are mainly controlled, as for the fluvial action, as for the marine one, essentially dominated by tides. The anthropic action is also a decissive factor, because the important modifications carried out in the fluvial basin and the riverbed, such as barrages, channels, dams, jetties, locks and dredging, which have altered the physiography and the natural regime of the river.
