Abstract

The present study aims to define the sort-term morphological changes at two sections of an urban beach, Cortadura Zone (ZC) and Victoria Zone (ZPV), Victoria Beach in Cadiz. Data collections spans from February to October 2012 using different techniques: topographic survey, granulometry and wave analysis, deploying current meter and pressure transducer. Topographic surveys were conducted almost every spring tide, while granulometric samples were collected seasonally. This beach showed a typical intermediate morphology state, with a system of swash bars. The wave climate was mild during the analysed period, where storm conditions were only observed in April/May and the end of the summer (2012). ZPV was found to be in equilibrium throughout the year since the berm was present and the sand volume constant. On the other hand, ZC showed some beach volume increased during the period of analysis. The results obtained characterise two similar areas, although with different recovery processes. The main difference lays on the fact that the waves and bathymetry interact and trigger processes like refraction and diffraction differentiating the nearshore wave climate at each area of Victoria beach.
