Abstract

The standard S-100, “Universal Hydrographic Data Model” edition 2.0.0. June 2015 (Modelo Universal de datos hidrográficos) is a publication originally published by the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) in June 2010, which seeks the adequacy of hydrographic rules into the framework of 19100 ISO (International Organization for Standardization). The S-100 standard is the new standard framework Hydrography, whose sense is to allow the development of data models and specifications for a variety of data sources (such as electronic navigational chart (ENC), nautical publications, bathymetric surfaces, etc..), products, applications or services that give rise to a set of publications called “Product Specifications (PS)” that nowadays are facing different processes in development by the IHO. These publications are being developed by working groups composed of actors from both public and private hydrographic areas. With this article we describe the fundamental aspects of the S-100 standard and report on its current state and that PS which are developing these working groups and committees.
