Résumé
The crisis of the Restoration allowed the regionalist resurgence, especially in the historical communities. In this context, the Extremadura Union emerged as a political project, proposed by the lawyer Mr. Juan Muñoz Chaves (1855-1917). Liberal politician and friend of Mr. Segismundo Moret, he belonged to an influential family of the judicial district of Fuente de Cantos, and he had ties with Tierra de Barros. He was born in Bienvenida (Badajoz) but settled in Cáceres, where he defended the interests of that province. The lawyer raised in 1907 in Badajoz this project in defense of the interests of Extremadura. The political rivalries or the weakness of our regionalism prevented its realization. However, that project contributed to the creation of two associations (Friends of the Region, Extremadura Regional Union), followed by the first regional initiative conducted by the two Provincial Councils (1918). The sudden death of Muñoz caused a great commotion in the society of the time
