Abstract

Acute fever without localizing signs or symptoms is a frequent complaint, usually self-limiting and caused by viral infections. But it is also needed to consider that fever can be the sole manifestation of many other infections, mainly in extreme ages and in immunosuppressed patients, as well as the prognosis is not uniformly good. It is essential to recognize early signs of life-threatening and consider possible risk factors. In patients with no risk factors, no evidence of clinical severity and whether the duration of fever does not exceed the week, diagnostic testing is unnecessary. In all other cases there will be a basic diagnostic approach. Location findings, if any, direct the diagnostic testing.
