Abstract

In connection with determine the possibility of use how hydrogen storage, a Mg25 wt. % Al alloy with porous morphology was prepared. The porosity was induced in order to increase its superficial area. The alloy was hydrogenated to 200 °C and 20 atmospheres during several periods. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-Ray diffraction (XRD) and Thermogravimetry Analysis (TGA) techniques were used in order to analyze the materials. The microstructure is founded by the ä+ã phases. The X-Ray diffractograms shown peaks displaced to origin, which indicate a volume increase by possible effect of hydrogen absorption. The TGA thermograms of hydrogenated alloys shown a weight increase by possible hydrogen retention. The porous alloy has 2.3 m2/gr superficial area.
