Abstract

Many publications have studied the effects of anxiety on foreign languages learning.Researchers have concluded that this variable has a negative impact on the language learning process, as well as on the cognitive process. Anxiety is related to communicative apprehension, fear of negative evaluation and test stress. However, a literature review has shown that no research has been developed concerning the study of this variable in the Spanish university context, where German is a subject of study. The aim of this paper is to analyze the feelings of anxiety in threedifferent degree programs: Degree in Tourism, 4-year Degree in Management Studies and Tourism and 5-year Degree in Management. A sample of 120 students is treated in the study. Data were collected using the Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (FLCAS), Horwitz, Horwitz and Cope (1986). The results reveal that the students suffered from average to high anxiety levels, which is reflected in high rates in relation to the communicative apprehension, a negative test evaluation, and the fear of negative evaluationby the teacher and classmates.
