Abstract
The integration of immigrant plurality is a challenge in the context of nation states. This work seeks to collect opinions about how the processes of integration and exclusion are being managed by Spanish and Argentinian public authorities. It also seeks to bring out the reasons of social inequality and to make proposals to promote family and community cohesion from social work. The empirical study has been developed among the cities of Buenos Aires (Argentina) and Cádiz, Granada, Malaga and Seville (Andalusia, Spain). Migratory movements among these cities are continuous and stable over time, and generally cause mutual sympathy, though with some prejudice. In addition, these four cities of Andalusia have been selected because they concentrate the largest number of immigrants from Argentina. Semi-structured interviews (open questions) were the instrument used for the analysis. This research project concludes that: 1) Integration is a challenge hardly achievable in the context of nation states, 2) Immigrants are discriminated and do not enjoy the rights and resources provided by the social protection systems in an equal proportion, 3) The Spanish and Argentinian authorities fail to provide effective mechanisms to fight social exclusion. Therefore, Social Work actions with families and communities are proposed.
