Abstract

In our paper we propose an approach to the presence of Cuban native Indians and their descendants in the defensive strategy of the Spanish empire in Cuba between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. By studying the social reality in established as Indian villages of Guanabacoa and San Luis de los Caneyes discuss the inclusion of India as the undisputed bastion in safeguarding and management of Hispanic interests through its active participation in maritime defense Cuba since the early colonial centuries
