Resumo

Although the rising influx of Anglicisms is quite a recent phenomenon, English words started to emerge in Spanish in the 18th century. This article aims to analyse the Anglicisms found in the Mexican press between the late18th and early 19th century in order to study the origins of the influence of the English lexis on the Spanish language in Mexico. Anglicisms are English words borrowed by other languages, that is, they are loan words. By loan words, it is understood a word from one language which is adopted by another one. In this paper, a corpus of Anglicisms found in the newspaper Gazeta de México, periódico oficial de la Nueva España (1784.1810) is studied in order to analyse some formal aspects such as typology, domains, frequency of use and admission in Diccionario de la Real Academia Española (DRAE).
