Abstract

Purpose: To describe a case of ghost cell glaucoma, which is defined as a type of secondary glaucoma that can occur after a prolonged vitreous hemorrhage, its treatment and progress. Method: Here we report a case of a 52-year-old patient repeat hemovitreous recurrence due to retinal vein branch obstruction refractory to treatment that presents secondary ghost cell glaucoma. Outcomes: Because of the course and extension of the hemorrhage, a pars plana vitrectomy was performed. During the surgery, an area with neovessels was recorded and treated with endolaser. A good postoperative result was achieved with controlled ocular tensions. Conclusions: This pathology is relatively infrequent and cases after cataract surgery, vitrectomy or trauma have been described, and also after long-term hemovitreous. In our case, the result after performing the vitrectomy was favorable.
