Abstract

Introduction: The aim of this research project is to determine the degree of necessity and usefulness of the overnight stay centers in Jerez de la Frontera according to the caregivers of elderly people with dependency. It is a little-known and practically non-existent resource within the range of services that exists in the Autonomous Community of Andalusia. Material and methods: Descriptive, observational and cross-sectional study using a mixed research method. We are located in Jerez de la Frontera with a population of 212,830 inhabitants. The sample is 600 habitual caregivers of dependent elderly. The variables studied are: age, sex, occupation, work schedules, emergencies that interfere in the care, utility and benefits of the Night Centers. As an instrument of data collection, an anonymous and voluntary survey of twelve questions is used. Results: 76% of respondents work and 18.11% do so on night shift. 89% have come up with an unforeseen nighttime, with 71.91% diseases. 99% consider these centers useful and necessary, especially in case of unforeseen events, in 97.5% as one of the main benefits. Discussion and conclusions: After carrying out this study, we achieved our objectives by confirming affirmatively the hypotheses. We know the degree of necessity and usefulness of night stay centers in Jerez de la Frontera and what are the benefits of their implementation for the dependent and their caregivers.
