Abstract

This study tries to disclose the priorities, values, and experiences which form the base of young people’s educational choices due to the growing disaffection towards scientific-technical subjects and the decline of scientific vocation, compounded in the case of women. To determine the influence that exerts active teaching-learning methodologies on the perception, attitudes, and depiction of S&T and school science, we explore and analyse the educational processes of programming course - in the 1st year of Secondary Education - and technology course - 4th year of Secondary Education - of two centres in Galicia. To reach a deeper understanding of student’s attitudes, backgrounds, and preferences towards scientific-technological subjects, an instrumental multi-case study has been developed. Also, this methodology enables us to capture the image and representation that students held about scientific work and the values and experiences that they base their choices, using a gender perspective. After analysing multiple factors affecting attitude decline towards S&T and the lower presence of women in these study fields. We conclude with the approach of interconnected multifactorial phenomena whose causes lie within and out of the walls of educational institutions
