Resumen

The remodelling of the Ponce de León palace in Jerez de la Frontera (16th century) The transformation carried out in the second third of the 16thcentury in the Ponce de León palace in the city of Jerez de la Frontera had as objectives the modification of the external appearance and the construction of the central nucleus of the house, as a qualified space for the domestic life. In this case, this space is configured through the articulation of few elements such as galleries and stairs. Pieces that not only provide information on the functional structure of the house - the connections between rooms, the most suitable solar orientation - but also on how traditional elements such as arches and pillars are formally articulated to adapt to new tendencies. In order to analyse the scope of the reform, we start from reading the building in the historical and urban context in which it is inserted, the geometry of its floors has been studied and graphic surveys of the most significant elements have been carried out: its singular window in corner and two galleries of the four that could have of the courtyard. The documents show us an intense reform process for just over two years that should be interpreted as a single action destined, ultimately, to create a domestic complex of renewed language, in which the recovery of classic models is combined with a certain fidelity to identity forms of medieval Islamic and Christian roots. A series of common patterns with other contemporary palatial constructions can be detected in this project and construction, with which it shares that moment of transit that is late Gothic.
