Resumen

This work presents an analysis of storminess over the last 50 years in the Gulf of Cadiz (SW Spain) and a comparison with shoreline erosion rates in Valdelagrana and Sancti Petri sandspits. Aerial photographs were used for assessing changes in the position of the dune toe, while storm events were obtained from wave buoy data and the hindcast database of the HIPOCAS project. Results show contrasting patterns in both sandspits, with the best agreement between storms and shoreline change observed in Sancti Petri sandspit, while Valdelagrana exhibits a lower dependence between shoreline erosion and storminess. This is related to the contrasting exposure of both sites, as Sancti Petri is more exposed and thus more sensitive to storm impact. Conversely, the main causes of retreat in Valdelagrana are more related to hu
