Resumo

This article describes a new application of key psychological concepts in the area of sociometry for the selection of individuals (workers) within organisations in which projects of any kind are developed. The project manager can use a new calculation algorithm to determine which individuals should be chosen from a given pool of resources and how to combine them into one or several simultaneous groups in order to assure the highest possible work efficiency of the different groups from the standpoint of social interaction. The optimisation process can be carried out by means of a matrix calculation performed using a computer or manually. In both cases, the calculation will be based on a number of new ratios generated ad-hoc and composed on the basis of indices frequently used in the practice of sociometry. The article provides a new and practical approach to classic sociometry, which so far has been mainly used as a descriptive tool. The proposed application is an active and objective tool to be used by project managers for making decisions in the area of human resources.
