Abstract (Nutritional management of patients with head and neck cancer) Malnutrition is one of the most frequent complications that appear in cancer patients, especially in those with head and neck cancer. The decrease of the nutritional status greatly affects functional capacity, with increased complications and infection rate, decreased tolerance to treatment, increased social and health costs, which affects the quality of life of patients. Therefore, the implementation of a nutritional algorithm evidence-based is needed. It is taken as reference guides recommendation of the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition and the European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism for the development of algorithm of action for nurses. The correct nutritional management will improve the efficiency and effectiveness of care provided in diagnosis and intervention, improving treatment tolerance, adherence to it, reducing social and health costs and improved quality of life.
